I have received a communication this morning from two organizations that work to fight underground terrorist support in the U.S., with some great news. Apparently, after floods of communications expressing horror that she gave a humanitarian award - out of naivete - to a known Muslim radical and suspected terrorist, Senator Barbara Boxer (D) has announced that she is withdrawing the award.

In what was subsequently revealed as a huge faux-pas - born of the ignorance of radical Islam common amongst the Democratic party - Senator Boxer unwittingly gave an "Outstanding Service" award to the Executive Director of CAIR-Sacramento, Basim Elkarra.

CAIR is under investigation from many quarters for illegal activities, including funding extremist terrorist groups for violent activites and weapons purchase, and itself accepting funding from terrorist groups. In addition, Elkarra himself is under investigation for terrorist activity unrelated to CAIR.

The following from Frontpage Magazine online a few days ago, said it pretty well: "When the Democratic Party overtook the House and the Senate this past November, it signified that Americans wanted change. What the country didn’t have in mind, though, was for that change to be an embrace of terrorism."
Leaders of the Democratic Party have long been criticized for being under-informed and misinformed about the realities of the Middle East conflict, especially as it relates to the U.S. Recently, a group of Democratic Senators including John Kerry (D-Ma) and Bill Nelson (D-Fl), traveled to Syria in direct defiance of U.S. policy, raising criticism even from several members of their own party.

The following is a press release from Americans Against Hate, a civil rights group based in Florida, that is especially involved in exposing and monitoring the activities of CAIR and its affiliates:

(Coral Springs, FL) Americans Against Hate (AAH), a civil rights organization and terrorism watchdog group, appreciates the decision made by United States Senator Barbara Boxer to rescind the award her office had presented to the Executive Director of CAIR-Sacramento Basim Elkarra.

Both CAIR and Elkarra have exhibited the type of extremist behavior that is not worthy of awards or accolades. Former officials from CAIR are currently in prison, serving time for terrorist-related crimes involving Hamas and Al-Qaeda. In fact, CAIR can thank Mousa Abu Marzook, the second in command of Hamas today, for its very existence.

AAH Chairman Joe Kaufman stated, "We are proud of Senator Boxer. By taking back this award, the Senator has shown that she is conscious of the 'extreme' problems that Basim Elkarra and his group, CAIR, pose to the public. We only hope that others recognize this, as well, and never again think about granting CAIR or its representatives any type of award."

KUDOS to Senator Boxer!! Conservatives don't expect agreement from left-wing senators on issues of national policy - they simply expect any leader to be well-informed before making a major decision. Senator Boxer's action shows that she has become better-informed on this issue, and that she is big enough to openly reverse a bad decision. Her humility in this action is startling in our current political climate, and worthy of respect from the staunchest conservative.

If the Democrats hope to enter office with any credibility come January, they will need to look to Senator Boxer's example, step up their educations a bit, and stop letting these types of incidents - born of obvious lack of study of important issues - damage them.
